How a case can save the Environment

To produce a Smartphone enormous amounts  of highly toxic waste is produced.

Gold mining is a major cause of deforestation in the amazon and the extraction process generates cyanide and mercury rich waste. They contaminate water and are detrimental to our ecosystems health.

Tin is used for soldering aswell as the touch. One third of the world's tin supply come from Indonesia's Islands. Mining the sand has destroyed the precious coral ecosystems aswell as drastically decline the fish population.

Rare Earth Elements

are essential for the touch screen, display, electronics, battery, speaker. Extracting rare earth involves the use of sulphuric and hydrofluoric acids and produces a loooot of highly toxic waste.

We will run out of some rare earths in the next 20 to 50 years and should be mindful about our own consumption behavior.

Everyone drops their phone

No one is immune to mistakes or accidents. If it’s happened to you, it’s happened to someone else. And, more importantly, it’ll happen again.

Unneccessary damage

Over 50 million phone screens crack every year.

In the US drops account for damage to 95 million smartphones each year, which adds up to being approximately $29.8 billion in electronic devices.

About 45 percent of cell phone owners will accidentally damage their phones.

The average time from purchase to breaking your phone is approximately 10 weeks.

More than 38 percent of consumers will drop their phone right out of their hand.

By just using a screen protector and a case you can reduce your chance of damage by 78 percent and prolong the average lifecycle of your phone by over 1 year.

SOLVING 1.3 BILLION TONNES OF FOOD WASTE

We abhor the current food waste problem!

More than 1.3 BILLION TONNES of food waste is produced per year!

That is why our mission is to make use of all of that material into valuable new products and protect the environment from plastic at the same time.

Material Composition

It takes plastic more than 500 years to degrade. A phone case on average is used for 1,5 years before it get's replaced. 2021 more than 15 billion mobile devices were operating - number rising.

The normal iPhone user has between 2 and 4 cases to choose from.

Combined with the increasing frequency we replace our smartphone you could calculate the amount of impact the cases alone have on our planet and the oceans.

That's why we decided to create a phone case that is 100% biodegradable and becomes soil when it is no longer used.

Completely made from soil, plant material left overs from other production processes and food scraps.

To gain a soft and elastic case we replaced the commonly used TPU with a natural mix of PLA and PBAT.

By adding soil and wheat straw we increase the strength and accelerate the decay process.

90% PLA

also known as polylactic acid, is obtained from renewable and natural raw material leftovers, such as wheat and rice.

The starch (glucose) is extracted from the plants and converted into dextrose by the addition of enzymes.

The main properties of PLA include low moisture absorption, low flammability, high resistance to UV radiation, color fastness and transparency.

10% PBAT

Polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT) is a biodegradable and compostable copolymer and is obtained by direct fermentation of cellulose like carrots, onions and saw dust by indirect fermentation.

The PBAT is responsible for a good grip and shock absorption combined with our Air Cushion Design your phone is well sheltered.
